US forces shot down an Iranian drone over Iraq last month, according to reports today on the wires. It's a sign of the increasing tensions between the US and Iran.
The drone was shot down 60 miles from Baghdad and according to the US military had been tracked for 1 hour and 10 minutes suggesting that this was no errant mistake or accident on the part of Iran.
But does the US have the right to complain? Not really, given that they are occupying Iraq against the will of its people. The truth is, at least among the people of the south of Iraq, Iraqis probably welcome more Iranian involvement.
The Iranians are probably sending their own message to the US - mess with us and you will have very big trouble indeed in Iraq.
