Vice-Chancellor Alan Gilbert of Manchester University seems to be softening his hardline attitude towards the occupiers.
Perhaps it is Oxford's Corpus Christi college being stripped of the victory laurels after the recent University Challenge victory, opening up the way to runners-up Manchester claiming the prize, that has warmed his cockles.
More likely, however, is the fact that the national demo called for this Wednesday by the occupying students is looming large.
He now says he is not 'minded' to victimise any students although he only refers to the Simons Building and not those occupying the John Owens building.
