The launch meeting of the United Campaign Against Police Violence (UCAPV) was held last night in central London. Over 150 people packed into the small meeting room at Friends Meeting House on the Euston Road to listen to speakers from the Green Party (Jenny Jones, pictured right), Inquest (Deborah Coles, centre), the Justice for Sean Riggs campaign (Sam, pictured left), the father of Roger Sylvester murdered by police in Tottenham, the campaign for Paps a muslim man from High Wycombe, also murdered by police, Martin Smith from the SWP, Andy Burgin from the Stop the War Coalition, a speaker from Liberty and others. RMT general secretary Bob Crow was due to speak but was busy organising strikes on the Underground or some such.
The campaign is now gearing up for the national march on 23 May and the kettling of Scotland Yard.
Saturday, 23 May: Mass demonstration through London. Assemble at 3pm, Trafalgar Square. March past Downing Street to New Scotland Yard.
