Islamic University of Gaza launches appeal for funds

Islamic University of Gaza was targeted by Israel during its 22-day war against the people of Gaza. The university is appealing for funds to aid reconstruction.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 5 (Bernama) -- The board of trustees of the Islamic University of Gaza where two buildings were destroyed in an aerial attack by the Zionist regime last December has appealed for aid from Malaysians for reconstruction.

Board director Dr Jamal Naji El-Khoudary said US$15 billion [should this be million? - GS] was needed to rebuild the two buildings.

He spoke to reporters after a news conference, held in conjunction with the commemoration of the "An-Naksah" (1967 War), organised by the Palestine Centre of Excellence (PACE) at the headquarters of the Jamaah Islah Malaysia (JIM), here. more

Students at 28 universities in the UK held sit-ins in solidarity with Gaza and in most cases secured funding for scholarships in addition to a commitment from their instiutions' authorities to send surplus educational equipment to Gaza. Gaza Solidarity intends to publish a round up of where we are at with these shipments and the difficulties caused by the continuing siege being imposed by Israel. Support striking Palestinian quarry workers demanding their rights from Israeli employer

On 16 June, 35 Palestinian workers at Salit Quarries in Mishor Adumim (in area C, east of Jerusalem, in the Occupied West Bank) began a strike. The workers, organized with the independent union WAC-Ma'an, are demanding an end to exploitation and humiliation, and insist on signing a first collective agreement. Salit Quarries’ main customer is Readymix Industries (Israel). The total reliance of Salit Quarry on Readymix as their biggest and by far the most important customer puts responsibility on Readymix to make sure that their clients abides by labour laws and safeguards elementary rights for the workers of Salit.
