London mayor Boris Johnson supports police stop and search repression

The terror laws have basically replaced the hated Sus laws that led to urban rebellions by black youths in the late 70s and early 80s. If the pigs carry on like this they can expect to get a bloody good hiding, to quote the late Bernie Grant MP speaking after the murder of a black woman, Cynthia Jarrett, by police and the subsequent death of a cop in riots that followed on the huge housing estate (project) at Broadwater Farm in Tottenham, north London in 1985.

This war on terror is an excuse for a war on working class kids, especially Black and Asian ones.
Boris Johnson, the London mayor, today defended the use of stop and search powers in London as it emerged that the capital's police stop someone every three minutes.

Johnson, who is also chair of the Metropolitan Police Authority, was challenged as figures obtained by the BBC under the Freedom of Information Act show the Metropolitan police used section 44 of the Terrorism Act – allowing them to search any person or vehicle without the need for suspicion – more than 170,000 times in 2008, a rise from 72,000 in 2007. Of those stops, only 65 led to arrests for terror offences...

...Figures published last week by the justice ministry showed the Metropolitan police were responsible for most of the increase in the use of counterterrorism stop and search powers in 2008, with black and Asian people disproportionately targeted.

The number of black people being stopped and searched under counterterrorism laws rose by 322%, compared with 277% for Asian people and 185% for white people. more

Weapons-grade uranium found in Egypt says International Atomic Energy Agency

Israel's Arab 'partner', Egypt, may be enriching weapons-grade uranium or have access to a source. It will be interesting to hear what the Zionists have to say about this. They don't want to fall out (excuse the pun) with Mubarak but on the other hand they want to maintain their regional monopoly on nukes.

Egypt is building a nuclear power station and enriched uranium is a by-product of the industry. Egypt announced yesterday that it was appointing WorleyParsons as the lead contractor for the project after negotiations with US firm Bechtel collapsed.

In 2008 Egypt signed a deal with Russia for the transfer of nuclear know-how. The country also has nuclear co-operation agreements with China, France and Kazakhstan.
VIENNA — U.N. nuclear inspectors have found traces of highly enriched uranium in Egypt, the International Atomic Energy Agency said in a report obtained Wednesday by The Associated Press.

Dated May 5, the restricted report said IAEA inspectors detected the particles last year and in 2007. A senior diplomat accredited to the agency said that it was the first time the traces were reported by the Vienna-based nuclear monitor. He demanded anonymity for commenting on the restricted document.

A second senior diplomat who also demanded anonymity said the particles were at or near weapons grade level, or in the stage that could be used for atomic arms.

It was unclear why the agency was disclosing the findings now. IAEA spokesman Marc Vidricaire said the agency had no comment. more
Meanwhile, the US is urging Israel to sign the nuclear Non Proliferation Treaty. Unlike the rogue state Israel, Iran is signed up to the treaty.

Israel lobby bullying members of Congress to follow its lead on 'peace process'

Half the members of the US Congress attended AIPAC this year. They, and other members of Congress, are being lobbied to sign-up to a letter demanding that the Obama administration takes its cue from Israel as far as the mis-named Middle East peace process is concerned - a blatant attempt to dictate US foreign policy.

The letter says the US "must be both a trusted mediator and devoted friend of Israel".

Official: Israel's press not free

NGO Freedom House is a "useless and ridiculous" organization, Government Press Office head Daniel Seamans charged on Sunday, after it downgraded Israel's press status from "free" to "partly free" in a report released over the weekend.

The report was published on the eve of World Press Freedom Day, which was observed on Sunday. more

Islamic Conference sending third convoy to Gaza

Ambassador Atta al-Mannan Bakheet, Assistant Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs at the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), stated that an aid convoy, containing 40 aid trucks, would be heading to the Gaza Strip on Wednesday.

In a statement released on Tuesday by the OIC, based in Saudi Arabia, Al Mannan stated that this is the third aid convoy sent by the OIC to Gaza, and added that this convoy is the largest as it includes 40 trucks filled with aid supplies.

Al Mannan further said that the Governor of Jidda in Saudi Arabia, Prince Majid Bin Abdul-Aziz, will represent Prince Faisal, the Emir of Mecca, in the official ceremony of launching the convoy.

250 figures, and human rights organizations, would be participating in the ceremony.

The convoy would head to the Logistic Coordination in Al Arish area in Egypt before crossing the borders into the besieged and impoverished Gaza Strip.

Shimon Peres threatens Iran - Iran threatens to wipe out Israel in 11 days

The warmongerer speaks:

A strikingly ineffective speech from Peres:
"We have respect for the Iranian people and its tradition. Historically Iran sought to enrich mankind. Today, alas, Iran's rulers want to enrich uranium.

What for? In addition to their nuclear option, they invest huge capital in long-range missiles. Iran is not threatened by anybody"

What for? Because Israel is the most aggressive state in the region and is nuclear armed.

A reply from Iran:

Syria and Iran will continue to back Palestinian resistance

Yesterday's comments from Hamas in Syria claiming to support a two states solution based on 1967 borders sounds like it was at the behest of Syria:
DAMASCUS, Syria (AP) — The leaders of Iran and Syria reaffirmed their support on Tuesday for what they characterized as “Palestinian resistance,” a defiant message to the United States and its Middle East allies, which are uneasy over American efforts to forge closer ties with Iran.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran, who met with President Bashar al-Assad of Syria, also spent time with the leaders of Hamas and other Palestinian radical groups based in Damascus. Iran is a strong supporter of Islamic militants in the region, including Hamas, which controls Gaza, and Hezbollah, which is based in Lebanon.

The Iranian president’s visit to Syria coincides with efforts by the United States to improve strained ties with both nations. Two American diplomatic envoys, Jeffrey Feltman and Daniel Shapiro, left Washington on Tuesday for Syria, their second visit in less than three months, to explore ways to ease tensions between the United States and Syria, the State Department said. Mr. Ahmadinejad and Mr. Assad made little specific mention of American diplomatic efforts at a news conference after their meeting.

But Mr. Ahmadinejad boasted that unnamed countries, which he said had tried for years to put pressure on Iran and Syria, now say they need support from the two countries to solve regional problems.

West kills another 100 Afghan civilians and pushes Pakistan into all out civil war

From Iraq to Palestine
Occupation is a crime

...and that includes Afghanistan, where the western 'liberators' today killed at least 100 civilians in an air strike. NATO, the coalition, or whatever they call themselves, will perhaps say sorry but will carry on with their indiscriminate killing and wonder why they can't, and will never, win this war. (Photograph: Abdul Malek/AP).

Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and U.S. President Barack Obama are meeting today to discuss how they can arrest Pakistan's descent into the abyss. Ex-US spy and Afghan President Hamid Karzai is also in on the talks, despite Washington's intention to circumvent/depose him.

The US watches in horror as the Taliban get nearer to the nuclear trigger but fail to understand how it is there policy of formenting civil war in the country in the name of the war on terror that has brought the country to the precipice.

The Pakistan government is now doing its master's bidding and preparing to launch all out war in Swat as hundreds of thousands flee the area. The US and Israel should be scared, very scared. at what their policies have unleashed in the region - hatred of the West and all its works.

UN seeks reparations for Israel's war crimes

Just to prove that the UN is in the pocket of western powers Ban Ki-moon is promising that there won't be any more inquiries regarding the Israeli barbarism in Gaza.

The UN is still refusing to release the full version of the report, so we only have the secretary General's summary to work from. The UN looked at nine incidents and found Israel guilty in all but seven. The summary can be downloaded here.

Israel's lie that Hamas was using the UN buildings as fire bases has been exposed by the UN. Israel, as ever these days, has been put on the defensive by the watered down report and claims it is one-sided and biased. The UN is now planning to seek reparations from Israel for the damage and deaths caused. Good luck with that.
