Latin America is leading the way on the world stage when it comes to recognition of Palestinian statehood, and it has the Israeli state very worried. Chile is the latest country in the region to recognise Palestine as a state. Interestingly, unlike their neighbours who recognise a state within 1967 boundaries, the Chilean declaration says nothing of borders. Israel was of course built right on top of Palestine. Altogether there are now six South American countries that recognise Palestine, Chile being the first from a non-left government. As Israel's crimes mount on an almost daily basis, expect the number of countries following the Latin American example to multiply.
After a day conflicting reports, Chile became the sixth Latin American country to recognize Palestinian statehood on Friday night saying it acknowledged a "free, independent and sovereign state, coexisting in peace with the State of Israel." more
