Canadian boat Tahrir plans to head to third-party port to circumvent Greek edict against Gaza travel
From the Montreal Gazette
The pro-Palestinian flotilla stuck in various Greek ports by government edict may try to reach ports in another country on its way to Gaza, the Quebec representative of the Canadian ship in the 10-boat fleet says.
Stéphan Corriveau, Quebec coordinator of the Canadian delegation, said in a telephone interview from Agios Nikolaos on Crete's northern shore that "we intend to get to Gaza, although we may have to make a pitstop or two along the way."
Athens has prohibited the humanitarian mini-armada from leaving port if they are headed to Gaza to try to breach Israel's blockade of the Palestinian enclave. But Corriveau said the ships may be able to leave if they sail to third-country ports.
"But we will not divulge which (port or country)."
Greece tried to appease activists Sunday, offering to deliver aid "through existing channels" and reaching out to the Palestinian Authority. more
