BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) -- Israeli border guards shot and killed a young Palestinian man at a checkpoint northeast of Bethlehem, family members said Friday, in the second deadly shooting in 12 hours.
Anas Fouad al-Atrash, 23, from Hebron was shot dead overnight. Israeli forces claimed that al-Atrash tried to stab a soldier at the Container checkpoint.
Witnesses said ambulances rushed to the area as Israeli forces shut down the checkpoint. The victim's body was transferred to the family ambulance in Hebron.
Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said the incident occurred around midnight, when a man ran at a border police officer with a knife, prompting him to open fire. more
