Medics: Israeli forces shoot 17-year-old in Gaza

GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- A Palestinian teenager was shot by Israeli forces in Jabaliya refugee camp, medics said.

Jameel Heesha, 17, was shot in his left foot near the northern border of Gaza Strip.

He was taken to a nearby hospital with moderate injuries.

An Israeli army spokeswoman did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

On Thursday, Israeli gunboats opened fire toward Palestinian fishing boats off the coast of the Gaza Strip, a local official said. more

Report: Abbas to start consultations on creating unity government

RAMALLAH (Ma’an) – President Mahmoud Abbas will start consultations Saturday to create a national unity government, the official Palestinian news agency Wafa reported Saturday.

The move, according to Abbas, will be in line with the Doha declaration of principles and the timetable approved by the Palestinian leadership during meetings in Cairo on Feb., 8, 2013 dedicated to activating and developing the Palestine Liberation Organization.

He highlighted that participants in Cairo agreed as well to set a date for presidential, parliamentary, and Palestinian National Council elections.

The PLO’s Executive Committee, added Abbas, has reiterated the same principles in a recent meeting on April 18 in Ramallah. more
