2 Palestinians killed in Israeli airstrike on Gaza's al-Bureij camp

GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Two Palestinians were killed in an Israeli airstrike on the central Gaza Strip late Sunday, a Ma'an reporter said. Two members of al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Jihad movement, were killed as Israeli warplanes struck al-Bureij refugee camp. The two were identified as Mazen al-Hadba and Marwan Salim. Further details were not immediately available. more

Medics: Israeli soldiers shoot teenager in central Gaza

GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Israeli soldiers shot and injured a Palestinian teenager on Monday near a border fence area of central Gaza, medics said. Jihad Sawarka, 16, sustained minor injuries in the incident, which took place east of al-Bureij refugee camp. The boy was taken to al-Aqsa Martyrs hospital for treatment. An Israeli army spokeswoman said that "IDF soldiers acted in accordance with IDF rules of engagement," without providing further details. Two Palestinians were injured on Saturday by Israeli gunfire near the border fence in eastern Gaza, medics said, with Hamas accusing Israel of violating the Egyptian mediated ceasefire. Since the beginning of Israel’s “Operation Pillar of Defence,” the number of Palestinians killed or injured has risen dramatically. How harsh, I feel, to use the word “number” since we are not actually mere numbers, but very tragic, heartbreaking and harrowing stories. My aunt lives in al-Bureij refugee camp in the center of the Gaza Strip, not far away from where I live in Deir al-Balah. Her house was bombed many times during Israel’s 2008-09 attacks on Gaza and is still a very possible target for the Israeli air strikes. The actual target is her brother-in-law who now has taken Ahmad Jabari’s place as a new commander in Hamas’s military wing. For the sake of their target, Israeli F-16s couldn’t care less when they kill children, women or the elderly or to destroy a five-story building even if they know that “the wanted man” doesn’t stay with his wife and children in this home. Official: Farmer injured by tank fire in central Gaza

GAZA CITY (Ma’an) -- A Palestinian man was moderately injured by tank fire in central Gaza on Wednesday, a medical official said. Ministry of health spokesman Ashraf al-Qidra said the man was being treated at Al-Aqsa Martyrs hospital in Deir Al-Balah after coming under tank fire. He is a farmer from Bureij refugee camp, the official said. Witnesses told Ma'an earlier on Wednesday that Israeli military vehicles entered the Gaza Strip near Bureij. An army spokeswoman said the vehicles were conducting "routine activity" and she was not aware of the incident of tank fire. more

Soldiers shoot dead 20-year-old man near Gaza border

GAZA (Reuters) -- Israeli soldiers shot and killed a 20-year-old Palestinian man who approached a fence near Gaza's border with Israel, medics said on Monday. An Israeli military spokeswoman confirmed the shooting took place after darkness fell on Sunday, saying troops opened warning shots when a man walking in a riverbed failed to heed orders to leave the buffer area. Palestinian medics said the victim, Ahmad al-Nabaheen, was unarmed and mentally unfit. Medics had to wait around six hours for permission to pick him up from the spot near al-Bureij refugee camp. Israeli forces detain 3 at Gaza border

GAZA CITY (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces detained three Palestinians trying to cross into Israel from the Gaza Strip on Saturday, Israel's army said. The group headed through the border near al-Bureij refugee camp around noon, where they were apprehended by soldiers and taken for security questioning, a military spokesman said. They were found to be unarmed, according to military sources. more

GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Israeli military vehicles entered the Gaza Strip on Tuesday east of Deir al-Balah and al-Bureij refugee camps , witnesses said. Four bulldozers accompanied by three military vehicles entered over 350 meters into Gaza, locals told Ma'an. An Israeli army spokeswoman said there was "routine" military activity along the border. Meanwhile, locals said Israel's navy opened fire at Palestinian fishermen in northern Gaza. An Israeli army spokeswoman said navy forces fired warning shots because the fishing boats deviated from the designated fishing area. more

Israel warplanes bombed an area east of al-Bureij camp, signaling an end to an Egyptian-brokered truce reached Wednesday. Qassem Abdullah Ahmed, 24, was killed and two people were injured in the strike, Gaza Health Ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qidra said. The Israeli military said in a statement that it hit "a terrorist squad during preparations to fire a rocket at Israel from the central Gaza Strip." The Popular Resistance Committees said the man killed in the attack belonged to their group. Earlier Friday, the Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades, the military wing of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, said it fired four rockets at Israeli targets. more

Four-year-old child and youth wounded as Israel attacks across Gaza

Palestinian medical sources in the Gaza Strip reported that a Palestinian child and a young man were wounded on Friday at dawn, when the Israeli Air Force bombarded a number of areas in the coastal region. The Palestinian News and Info Agency, WAFA, reported that an Israeli “Apache” chopper fired at least one missile at a residential area west of Beit Lahia, in the northern part of the Gaza Strip, causing damage to a number of homes, also wounding a resident in his twenties, and a 4-year-old child identified as Hayat Taha. Israeli troops kill one and injure two in gunfire on border

GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Israeli troops killed a Palestinian and wounded two in the central Gaza Strip on Saturday, hospital officials said. Palestinian medical officials said 35-year-old Majid Nabaheen was seriously injured east of Al-Bureij refugee camp and died in Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir Al-Balah. Locals described Nabaheen as standing near his home in the camp when Israeli forces opened fire with heavy machine guns. Several artillery shells also landed in the area, they said. An Israeli military spokeswoman said troops along the Israeli side of the border heard an explosion and responded with fire toward "areas suspected as points where terrorists operate." Earlier, Israeli naval ships opened fire on a Palestinian fishing boat off the Gaza coast, injuring a 45-year-old fisherman, medical official Adham Abu Salmiya said. TEL AVIV, Israel (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces shot dead a Palestinian man in Gaza early Saturday, medical officials and the army said. The unidentified man's body was removed from Al-Bureij refugee camp and transferred to Al-Aqsa Hospital, medics said. more update from PIC: BREIJ, ( PIC )-- A Palestinian teen was killed at dawn Saturday when the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) fired at him east of Breij refugee camp in central Gaza Strip. The IOF command announced that its forces spotted the Palestinian while crawling toward the security fence and shot at him. Local sources earlier said that the IOF troops opened intensive fire at agricultural land in the same area. Spokesman for the medical services Adham Abu Salmiya told the PIC that ambulance teams retrieved the body of a 17-year-old youth from the area. Local sources identified the martyr as Ibrahim Farajallah from Nusseirat refugee camp.
