From Electronic Intifada A spokesperson for David Cameron on Friday refused to comment on the rationale behind the British prime minister’s decision to step down from his position as honorary patron of the Jewish National Fund (JNF). The move comes as pressure on the JNF steps up in Britain, and is being hailed by activists as a big victory in the boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) campaign. Campaigners with activist group Stop the JNF had written to Cameron earlier in May calling on him to cut his links with the JNF. Registered as a charity in the UK, the JNF is involved in development of illegal settlements in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, the destruction of Palestinian Bedouin villages in the Naqab (Negev) inside Israel and stands accused of institutionally racist practices and complicity in ethnic cleansing since 1948. The Taxpayers Alliance in the UK poses as an independent organisation when it is in fact staffed by supporters of David Cameron's Conservative party. No surprise then that it's research director Matthew Sinclair, speaking at a press conference in Jerusalem, shows himself to be a blind backer of the Israeli state, seeing the funding of Palestinian education as "incitement against Israel" and fomenting anti-semitism. As usual no proof is provided of the alleged anti-semitism the European Union is meant to be unwittingly funding. Israel's foreign minister Ayalon was also at the press conference and had some racism of his own to dish out. British prime minister Cameron comes out in favour of Israeli piracy and carte blanche for more massacres at sea. David Cameron gave a ringing message of support for Israel this week, telling the community's biggest charity dinner that after more than 100 rockets had been fired into Israel from Gaza in one year, the country had been "within its rights to search vessels bringing cargo into Gaza". It was a reversal of his remarks in Turkey last July following the seizure of the Mavi Marmara aid ship, when he described Israel's approach to the Gaza flotilla as "completely unacceptable." more

British prime minister Cameron has described the Israeli-imposed siege as turning Gaza into a prison camp . Well I never - a Tory speaking the truth. But what was the context I hear you ask? Well, he is on a visit to Turkey so, really, it was the least he could say after the murder of eight of Turkey's citizens (and one Turkish-American) at the hands of the Israeli state for doing nothing more than trying to deliver aid to the people of Gaza. Now, having said that, it's going to make the pro-Israel crowd, such as the Conservative Friends of Israel, hopping mad so that's something to cheer.
