Israeli troops attack non-violent protests on Friday and Saturday

Weekly non-violent protests were organized on Friday in the villages of al Nabi Saleh, Bil’in, Nil’in in central West Bank, in addition to Al Ma’ssara in southern West Bank, all of which were attacked by Israeli soldiers firing tear gas and rubber-coated steel bullets. On Saturday, two women were injured during a non-violent protest in Um al-Kheir village, east of Yatta, in the southern West Bank. The protest at Um al-Kheir focused on the recent expansion of an Israeli settlement onto village land. The two women, identified as Amina and Halima, were wounded when Israeli forces attacked the crowd, beating them with rifle butts and kicking them. During the Saturday protest at Um al-Kheir, local sources reported that three Palestinian youth and an international solidarity activist were abducted by Israeli forces and taken to a nearby military camp for interrogation. Eight Injured, one Seriously, as Israeli Troops attack West Bank Anti Wall Protests

Eight civilians were injured, one seriously, on Friday, while many were treated for the effects of tear gas inhalation when Israeli soldiers attacked anti wall protests in a number of West Bank villages. Protests were organized in the central West Bank villages of Bil’in, Nil’in and al Nabi Saleh. Eight protesters including one international supporter were injured by Israeli fire at a protest in the village of al Nabi Saleh. The international activist was seriously injured when she was hit with many rubber-coated steel bullets fired by Israeli troops. al Nabi Saleh villagers and their international and Israeli supporters marched after the midday prayers on Friday to protest Israel’s confiscation of their lands to build a settlement. Troops attacked the march before they even left the village. Soldiers invaded the villages and fired tear gas into people’s homes; many were treated for the effects of tear gas inhalation. Civil suit against Israel over shooting of Tristan Anderson to begin in Jerusalem next week

Thanks to the International Solidarity Movement On 13 March 2009, Israeli Border Police officers shot US activist from California,Tristan Anderson, in the head with a high velocity tear-gas projectile during a demonstration in the West Bank Village of Ni’ilin. He was shot from a distance of about 40 meters away, at a time when no clashes or protesters were in his immediate vicinity. As a result of the shooting, Anderson suffered serious brain damage and the loss of his eye, as well as being paralyzed on half of his body. His injuries prevent him from functioning as an independent adult. A criminal investigation into the incident by the Israeli police is still pending. Proceedings in the Anderson family’s civil suit against the State of Israel will begin on Thursday at the Jerusalem District Court in Jerusalem. Peaceful protesters attacked by Israeli troops across West Bank on Friday

Thanks to the International Middle East Media Center Non-violent protests took place in five locations on Friday, in different parts of the West Bank, resulting in injuries at all five locations and arrests in the village of al-Ma'sara, near Bethlehem, Kafr Qaddum, near Qalqilya, and an-Nabi Saleh, near Ramallah. In Kafr Qaddum, whose villagers have begun weekly protests in the last month, three resident of the village were injured today by direct hits from tear gas cannisters. One of those injured was arrested whilst being treated by medics. The firing of tear gas canisters directly at protesters contravenes international law that states that tear gas canisters must be fired in a upwards arc, and never directly at persons. In al-Ma'sara, local protest organizer, Mahmoud Alaaeddin, was arrested whilst returning home from the village's protest. Hundreds join protests against apartheid wall - occupation troops respond with violence

From Ma'an RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- Palestinians and international activists protested Friday against Israel's separation wall in villages across the West Bank. Israeli forces fired-tear canisters at the demonstrators in Ni'lin, Bil'in, Nabi Saleh and Al-Mas'ara, villages near Ramallah and Bethlehem. In Al-Mas'ara, near Bethlehem, activists protested Israel's decision to demolish a mosque in the village. Israeli troops used force to quash the rally, injuring three Palestinian protesters, the local popular committee said. The committee called for a demonstration Wednesday to stop Israeli forces from demolishing the mosque. more

Private security guard opens fire at protesters against land confiscations for illegal quarry

From the International Solidarity Movement A private Israeli guard opened live fire on protesters marching on an illegal quarry near the West Bank village of Shuqba. The march was organized by the Ni’lin and Budrus popular committees and commenced at noon. Dozens of Palestinian and Israeli activists marched toward the illegal quarry to stop the further confiscation of Palestinian lands from the nearby villages of Ni’lin, Qibya, Shuqba and Shebteen. As demonstrators were marching towards the quarry, an Israeli security guard opened fire. more

Six injured at weekly anti-apartheid wall protest - villages invaded, tear gas fired into homes

Ramallah, ( Pal Telegraph ) - PNN - Six civilians were injured on Friday and many more were treated for the effects of tear gas inhalation when Israeli troops attacked the weekly anti-wall protests in a number of West Bank communities. This week, protests were reported in the villages of al-Nabi Salleh, Bil’in, and Nil’in in the central West Bank, as well as al-Ma’ssara in the south. One man was injured in the leg and two dozen were treated for the effects of tear gas inhalation as troops attacked the weekly protest in the village of al-Nabi Salleh, central West Bank. On Friday morning, villagers and their international and Israeli supporters gathered near land where Israel plans to build a new settlement. Troops attacked villages as soon as they left, and later invaded the village and fired tear gas into people homes. more

Non-violent protests against Israeli occupation growing

Non-violent direct action by against the Israeli occupation of Palestine is growing, and so is active international support and unfortunately Israeli repression. Gaza: The non-violent movement is still alive and well and has spread from the West Bank to the Gaza Strip. Two small towns near Ramallah, Bil'in and Nil'in in the West Bank, have been the flashpoint for consistent non-violent Gandhi-like demonstrations against Israeli occupation. Since 2005, these villages, whose combined populations do not exceed 10,000, hold weekly demonstrations against the Israeli wall. These demonstrations have attracted hundreds of international activists from around the world who stand in solidarity with the Palestinians daily. More recently however, these types of demonstrations have been gaining momentum in Gaza. March to freedom – Ni’lin village takes down the Wall Latest News, Palestinian Grassroots Anti-Apartheid Wall Campaign , September 19th, 2009 After the people had concluded their Friday prayer in the fields near the village, more than 100 farmers, youth, international and Israeli peace activists marched towards the Apartheid Wall and their confiscated lands. Participants brought car tires and a big home made ladder to climb the high wall. Right at the beginning of the protest, the youth had prepared a surprise for the Occupation forces: by using home made equipment one of the youth climbed the concrete wall and tied a chain at the holes in the upper part of the Wall’s cement components. Pulling this rope, the people managed to take down three concrete blocks of the Wall. This is the first time something like this has happened, and the people were happy to have such a success. This was the first message: one day the wall will fall and Ni’lin will be the start. more

Anti-wall protester murdered by Israeli troops at weekly Nilin demonstration

RAMALLAH, (PIC)-- Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF)on Friday killed a Palestinian man at Nilin and wounded five others at Bilin during the weekly anti-wall demonstration at these two villages near Ramallah. At Nilin, Yusuf Aqel Soror, 36, was hit by a bullet in his chest. He was taken to the Ramallah government hospital where he succumbed to his wounds. Israeli radio reported the killing of Soror quoting an Israeli occupation military spokesman as saying that an IOF sniper killed Hamas activist Yusuf Soror in Nilin during a demonstration. IOF troops also fired teargas canisters and rubber-coated steel bullets at demonstrators causing a number of cases of suffocation. Meanwhile, in nearby Bilin, five demonstrators were wounded and scores suffered breathing difficulties as a result of the firing by the IOF troops of teargas and rubber-coated bullets.

Peaceful anti-wall protest in Ni'lin attacked again by IDF

RAMALLAH, (PIC)-- Three protesters were injured and dozens suffered tear gas suffocation when Israeli occupation forces attacked the weekly anti-wall march held at noon Friday in Ni’lin village, west of Ramallah. Despite the Israeli attempts to quell the march, the Ni’lin protestors managed to reach the Palestinian lands in the village where the Israeli occupation authority is expanding its apartheid wall. Palestinian citizens and foreign activists also stationed on rooftops and at doors of homes and blocked the arrival of IOF troops to the village. The IOF troops also used armed force against dozens of Palestinians and foreign activists participating in an anti-wall protest march held Friday in Al-Ma'sara village near Bethlehem. IOF troops established barriers and barbed wire to bar the march from approaching the segregation wall.
