CPS: No prosecution of Galloway over Gaza solidarity speech

Image
The UK's Crown Prosecution Service has confirmed that Bradford-West MP George Galloway will not be charged over a speech in made in Leeds, this past August, which asserted that Bradford was an 'an Israel-free zone'. Following Galloway's speech on August 2, which was posted online, several complaints were made to Yorkshire police that Galloway's comments amounted to hate crime. According to the PNN, these allegations have been comprehensively dismissed by the CPS. "This has been an extremely expensive waste of police' and CPS' time forced on them by ultra-Zionists who were pursuing a vendetta against me," Galloway said. "My comments were aimed at the state of Israel which - I repeat what I said at the time - is an illegal, savage and barbarous state, and had nothing whatever to do with race or religion. And they have the benefit of being true. That country has more censures against it by the United Nations than the rest of the countries i...

Egypt refuses to grant permission for Viva Palestina convoy to enter Gaza through Sinai

Image
(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - European activists have condemned the Egyptian rejection to implement the obtained regulatory approvals in order to reach the Gaza Strip through the Sinai Peninsula. The General Coordinator of the convoy "right of return", Kevin Aovindan [Ovenden, ed], stated, in a press conference held in trade unions headquarters in Amman yesterday, that the lack of clarity and the contrast in Egyptian officials' positions prevented the arrival of the convoy to Gaza through the Egyptian borders. Aovindan said that the President of the convoy, the British MP George Galloway was in Cairo until May 15, and he left after he had got the Egyptian official approval for the passage of the convoy to the Gaza Strip through Rafah crossing, however Egypt reneged on its approvals. He added that "the participants in the convoy have spent over 3 weeks in Aqaba to get from the Egyptian authorities the permission to cross into Egypt and then to enter Gaza. Aovindan said, ...

George Galloway election victory sends Palestine liberation advocate to UK parliament

Image
George Galloway's victory in a UK election in the northern city of Bradford was a victory for the cause of Palestine, evidenced by Haaretz's shocked report: Far-left candidate, George Galloway, won a landslide victory in the by-election for the Bradford West parliamentary seat in the U.K. on Thursday night. Galloway, a former Labour MP who was banished from the party after he called the Iraqi resistance to kill British soldiers in the country, celebrated his victory, tweeting to supporters, "Long live Iraq. Long live Palestine, free, Arab, dignified. George Galloway MP." more Viva George Galloway, a fearless fighter for justice.

Viva Palestina convoy to purchase vehicles and aid in Egypt for Gaza mission - register now

Image
The Viva Palestina will not be travelling overland from London and elsewhere to Gaza but will instead be purchasing vehicles and aid in Egypt and travelling from there. Latest details are here REGISTER NOW FOR VIVA PALESTINA 6 - THE RETURN CONVOY Almost three years after the Israeli Operation Cast Lead killed over 1,400 Palestinians, the situation for most Gazans remains dire, with unemployment, shortages of medical supplies and much else essential to secure minimum living standards. The sixth aid convoy organised by Viva Palestina is aiming to enter Gaza in time to commemorate the onslaught on the people of Gaza represented by Operation Cast Lead. It is our intention with this convoy to try to increase the aid element and we also want to reduce the total time those on the convoy will need to take off work whilst increasing the time they can spend in Gaza. We are also taking into account the fluid situation that has developed since the start of Arab Spring and the fall of Mubarak. We a...

From Viva Palestina Galloway announces new land and sea convoys to break the siege of Gaza Speaking at a demonstration in London on 5th June which organisers estimated to be more than 20,000 strong, George Galloway announced  new land and sea convoys to break the siege of Gaza. "After extensive discussion in Istanbul," said Galloway, "I can announce that a land convoy will leave Britain shortly after the end of Ramadan in September this year and travel through Europe, down through Turkey and Syria into Jordan. We will ask the Egyptian government then to ensure passage from the port of Aqaba to Rafah and into Gaza. "At exactly the same time a flotilla of boats will be leaving to tour the countries of the Mediterranean before heading for Gaza. "These combined sea and land convoys will be co-coordinated by Viva Palestina with other organisations in Britain and with our friends throughout the Middle East and in Turkey." Galloway to Mubarak: you aint seen nothing yet

Image
Tinpot tyrant ain't seen nothing yet By George Galloway I have been in a few dangerous places in my life. In the mid 80s along with an ITN news crew I was bombed by the Ethiopian air force. My face pressing into the dirt, with no cover around, I saw the shrapnel tear and kill small children and watched others die on a wooden table in a grass hut after they bombers had gone. I have been bombed by Israel in Beirut and held with an Israeli machine gun at my chest in Nablus during the first Iraq war. Involuntarily, I put my hands up and the blue-eyed blonde "Israeli" said that if I didn't put my hands down he would kill me. I've never, however, been in a more dangerous situation than last week in the tiny Sinai port of Al Arish to which the Egyptian dictatorship had insisted we bring our convoy. Five hundred foreigners from 17 different nationalities with 200 vehicles were crammed into a compound without water, food or toilet facilities. They included 10 Turkish MPs o...

George Galloway deported from Egypt by Mubarak dictatorship

Image
George Galloway has been deported from Egypt, according to the BBC. This is the first time that the Viva Palestina convoy has been reported on the homepage of the BBC's main national news website.Apparently George has been declared persona non grata - which he should take as a source of pride. The Mubarak regime yet again shows what a rotten collaborationist gang of thugs it is. British MP George Galloway has been deported from Egypt, say activists working with him to take an aid convoy into Gaza. The Bow and Bethnal Green MP had been with international activists trying to take 200 aid trucks into the blockaded Gaza Strip. Egypt had refused some of the vehicles access and there have been protests and clashes on the Egypt-Gaza border. The state news agency says Mr Galloway has left Egypt and returned home. There have also been reports the Respect MP has been declared "persona non grata" and will not be allowed to enter Egypt again, following his criticism of Cairo over del...

Galloway and Press TV criticised by Ofcom for telling viewers the truth

Image
George Galloway - favourite whipping boy of the western media - has been criticised for being biased against Israel with his broadcasts during Israel's war on Gaza in January. UK regulator Ofcom said the "overwhelming majority of content of the programmes were from a pro-Palestinian point of view and were highly critical of Israeli policy". Given the overwhelming pro-Israel bias of most of the rest of the UK media at the time Press TV should be applauded for adding some balance to the mix, not castigated. As an example of the bias Galloway supposedly displayed on Press TV's The Real Deal comment show Ofcom drew attention to his remarks that Gaza was a "killing zone", an area of "mass murder", and his references to the "ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people from Southern Palestine into Gaza". Now that all sounds like fair and reasonable comment to me but if you lived in a country that banned a humanitarian appeal for suffering people ...

Chavez may be joining convoy to break Gaza siege

Image
The British MP George Galloway is expected to arrive in Gaza by Wednesday leading a convoy of 255 US citizens that are bringing humanitarian aid to the impoverished strip. The Gaza de facto government’s commission on delegations made known that Galloway’s convoy will try to enter the Strip through the Egyptian border crossing in Rafah. They will arrive to the border crossing on Tuesday evening. Galloway’s last visit to Gaza was in March. During that visit the British lawmaker donated a fleet of ambulances and 25,000 British pounds to the de facto government in Gaza.Former US Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney has travelled to Egypt to join Galloway’s convoy. McKinney had just been deported by Israel last week for her presence on the Free Gaza boats, that were sailing to Gaza with hard needed humanitarian aid. Thanks to the International Middle east Media Center Press TV reported today on a story at Ma'an agency that George Galloway is organising another convoy to the Strip, this time...

Viva Palestina US to depart from JFK on Independence Day

Image
Dear Friend, We were all moved to tears of grief and anger when Israel launched its murderous bombardment against the people of Gaza in December and January. Millions of us took to the streets in unprecedented protests around the globe. Each and every one of us has asked ourselves what more we can do to help stop the suffering. The inspirational anti-war and pro-Palestinian British MP, George Galloway, decided that while it is necessary to speak out - in his case with great force and eloquence - it is actions that speak louder than words. While the bombs were still showering down on what has been called the largest open-air prison in history, Galloway decided to organize a humanitarian convoy that would start in Britain, drive through France and Spain, and across North Africa to arrive in Gaza with aid, even as all borders to the devastated region were under complete blockade. In just five short weeks, he pulled together 107 vehicles - including ambulances and a fire engine - 255 peo...

Viva Palestina US pledges $10m and 500 vehicles for Gaza

Fresh from the success of the Viva Palestina aid convoy which took over 100 vehicles to Gaza from Britain , George Galloway MP has linked up on his US tour with the Vietnam veteran and peace campaigner Ron Kovic to launch a similar, but bigger venture from the States. Galloway announced the initiative at a 1000-strong meeting in Anaheim , South California , rounding off a packed-out, coast to coast speaking tour highlighting the Palestinian cause. “There's a new atmosphere in the US over Palestine ,” says Galloway , “the phenomenal response to this tour demonstrates that.” Ron Kovic, whose story was immortalised in Oliver Stone's Born on the Fourth of July , will be the co-leader of the convoy, which will form up in Egypt and make its way to the Rafah crossing and into Gaza Organisers are aiming for 500 vehicles and $10 million of aid. “And what better day to head off,” says Galloway , “Than July 4 ...

Galloway declares war on Charity Commission attempt to criminalise solidarity with Gaza

See George Galloway's declaration of war on the Charity Commission for its blatant attempt to undermine and destroy the solidarity work of Viva Palestina . We questioned the motives of the Charity Commission in our report of the 26 March: George Galloway right to attack Charity Commission over Viva Palestina aid Letter from Respect MP George Galloway to the Charity Commission To the Charity Commission, I have been travelling for many weeks in North Africa and the Middle East, Europe, and North America. I have returned to a London address I seldom visit to find a blizzard of correspondence from you. Your correspondence, when read together, as I have just done, seems to represent a wildly disproportionate and inappropriate reaction to our recent delivery of aid to the suffering Palestinians in Gaza, and must raise the question: Why? The peremptory letters from you, and by you I mean the Charity Commission, are full of bluster and threat, issuing absurd deadlines to people it does not...
