A 16-YEAR old Palestinian boy has been gunned down and killed by an Israeli security guard for allegedly “running towards” him. The boy was killed at the Jalamah checkpoint to the north of Jenin today (Saturday). Nobody else was hurt. He has still to be named. Palestinian rescue services said medics were prevented from reaching the boy. They estimated he had been shot at least five times. The Israeli Defence Ministry, which controls the crossing, claimed the boy had run towards a guard waving a knife. The checkpoint, a main point of transit, is currently closed to traffic. The shooting is the latest in a wave of deadly shootings of Palestinians by Israeli forces, who have been condemned by human rights organisations and internationally for excessive and unnecessary use of force. more

JENIN (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces shot and killed a Palestinian man during clashes that broke out following a raid into the town of Birqin west of Jenin on Wednesday morning. Muhammad Ahmad Alawneh, 21, was shot with a live bullet in his chest. He was taken to a hospital for treatment, where he underwent surgery, but later succumbed to his wounds, medical sources told Ma'an. Alawneh is the 16th Palestinian to be killed by Israeli forces this year. During the clashes, Israeli forces fired tear-gas canisters and stun grenades, as well as live rounds. Izz al-Din Walid Bani Gharra, 21, was shot in the chest during clashes with Israeli forces who raided the camp at dawn. He was evacuated to the public hospital in Jenin where he died shortly after, sources told Ma'an. An Israeli army spokesperson did not have information on the incident and an Israeli border police spokesperson did not immediately respond for comment. Gharra is the twelfth Palestinian to be killed by Israeli forces in occupied East Jerusalem, West Bank, and Gaza since the start of 2015, according to UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, with over 900 injured, not including injuries resulting from settler violence. Palestinian medical sources have reported, on Tuesday at dawn that the young man who was shot and critically injured on Monday evening, near the northern West Bank city of Jenin, died of his wounds. The sources said Mohammad Murad Yahia, 21 years of age, died in a hospital in the northern West Bank city of Nablus. Eyewitnesses said Israeli soldiers shot the young man, while standing near the Annexation Wall section in al-‘Arqa village, without any provocation or prior warning. Resident ‘Asef Wakid said Yahia and his cousins, Aymad and Emad, were in their families' orchards, close to the “Shaked” illegal Israeli colony, when the soldiers shot and killed Yahia in cold blood. Wakid stated that a soldier fired one round at Yahia causing a serious injury, before the army kidnapped his cousins Ayman and Emad. Israeli troops shot and injured a young Palestinian man during clashes in the northern West Bank town of Qabatia west of Jenin on Tuesday morning, security sources said. Palestinian security sources told Ma'an that some 40 Israeli military vehicles stormed the town at dawn firing tear-gas canisters, stun grenades and rubber-coated balls. The presence of Israeli military provoked local young men who confronted the Israeli soldiers pelting them with stones and empty bottles. The soldiers then started to use live ammunition and as a result 20-year-old Muhammad Ali Hithnawi was shot in his left foot. more

An Israeli bus driver ran over two Palestinian at al-Jalama checkpoint in Jenin, killing one person and injuring another, Palestinian security sources said Tuesday. Palestinian security sources told Ma'an that Noor Hassan Naim Salim, 22, and Alaa Kayid Salim, 20, from Nablus were injured after being ran over by an Israeli bus. Hussein was taken to an Israeli hospital with serious injuries and later died. Salim was taken to Jenin governmental hospital with light injuries. Locals said undercover Israeli forces arrived at Abu al-Hayja’s home in a car with Palestinian license plates before clashing with Palestinians who noticed them. Palestinians threw an improvised explosive device at the Israeli forces who called for reinforcements. Around 25 military vehicles arrived in the camp and fired live ammunition at Palestinians, injuring three people critically. Two people were shot in the stomach and one in the head. One person died on the way to hospital, an Israeli army spokeswoman told Ma'an. She said military medics were treating the injured Palestinians after the incident. Israeli special forces raided the northern West Bank city and detained Shadi al-Darbi, 30, Hassan Meri, 19, Waseem Ortani, 18, and Sleiman Lahlouh, 20. Sleiman was later released. Al-Derbi's father told Ma’an that Israeli troops surrounded the house and damaged an entrance gate using explosives. He said soldiers treated the family "brutally" and caused a "huge mess" before leaving. He added that the soldiers harassed his son Ahmad and his wife. JENIN (Ma'an) -- Clashes broke out Monday morning in the Jenin refugee camp as Israeli forces detained two members of the Fatah-affiliated al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade, locals said. Locals said the fighting continued for two hours after Israeli forces raided the al-Jabaryat area of the camp at 4 a.m., detaining Raed Amin Dababa and Mohammad al-Amer. A large military convoy was seen in the camp and two helicopters were overheard in the area, they added. The two detainees are exempt from arrest by Israel under a deal with the Palestinian Authority signed in 2007, allowing Palestinian fighters who renounced violence against Israel and gave up arms immunity from detention. Dozens of Palestinian activists set up the Al-Asra, or prisoners, protest village in the village of Anin, northwest of Jenin, on Saturday, Palestinian Authority Minister of Prisoners Issa Qaraqe announced during a press conference. Anin village is located next to Israel's separation wall. The governor of Jenin Talal Dweikat and member of the Palestinian Legislative Council Jamal Hwail attempted to enter the village with activists, but were prevented from doing so by Israeli forces. TUBAS (Ma'an) -- At least thirty people were injured during clashes in a Jenin village on Tuesday after an undercover Israeli arrest operation in the area, Ma'an's correspondent said. Israeli forces raided the village of Tamoun, south Jenin and arrested Murad Bani Odeh, a member of Islamic Jihad, leading to clashes with residents, a local official told Ma'an. At least thirty people were wounded in the clashes, with live ammunition, rubber bullets and tear gas fired by Israeli soldiers, head of a local committee against settlements Ahmed Assad said. One man was hit in the eye with a tear gas canister and taken to hospital for treatment and over 100 people suffered smoke inhalation from tear gas. more

ENIN, (PIC)-- The village of Dhahr al Maleh, to the south of Jenin located behind the Apartheid Wall, has been living for ten days in total darkness after the disruption of the electrical generator, which supplies the energy to the village and which the occupation authorities refuse allowing repairing. Hussein al Abd, a member in the Village of Dhahr al Maleh Council, confirmed in a press statement that the electric generator of the village had been disrupted and that due to the location of the village (behind the wall apartheid), the council was unable repair it because of the Zionist obstacles. He noted that the village, which has a population of 300 people, has been using the electrical generator since 1995 and that it had received a new generator six months ago, that has stopped working ten days ago. He also pointed out to the increase of power consumption during the summer especially as the month of Ramadan is approaching. more

Bilal Diab has been in administrative detention without charge, and there is nothing to justify his detention especially that his health condition is very critical, the prisoner's brother said during a solidarity protest in front of the Red Cross in Jenin on Wednesday. For her part, the mother of Mohamed Tej, who has been in hunger strike for 22 days running, called the international institutions for the enforcement of Geneva Conventions for prisoners, especially the third and the fourth and to pressure the occupation to apply them. more
