Resistance bomb wounds Israeli officer on Gaza border

JERUSALEM (Reuters) -- An Israeli officer was severely wounded on Tuesday when a bomb went off beside an army patrol along the border with the Gaza Strip, a military spokeswoman said.

The attack came on the same day that the Emir of Qatar was due to arrive in Gaza in the first visit by a head of state to the blockaded enclave since it was taken over in 2007 by the Islamist Hamas movement.

No militant group claimed responsibility for the bomb attack. An Israeli military statement said the soldiers were on a "routine patrol adjacent to the security fence in the central Gaza Strip" when the explosion occurred.

The officer was evacuated by helicopter to hospital, the statement added.

On Monday, Israel killed two Palestinian militants, one of them a Hamas gunman, in airstrikes on the coastal enclave. more

Egyptians continue to keep Gaza's only exit closed

GAZA CITY (Ma’an) – The Gaza Strip’s only exit to the outside world, the Rafah crossing between Egypt and the enclave, was shut down for the second consecutive day on Saturday. Sources at the terminal confirmed to Ma’an that the crossing point was still closed. On Friday, Palestinian official Mahir Abu Sabha said that Egyptian officials at the site informed the Palestinian side it would remain closed until further notice. more

On 16 June, 35 Palestinian workers at Salit Quarries in Mishor Adumim (in area C, east of Jerusalem, in the Occupied West Bank) began a strike.
