Israel launches airstrike on southern Gaza Strip

Israel launched an airstrike on the Gaza Strip overnight Sunday in response to a rocket fired from the besieged enclave earlier in the day, witnesses and Israel's army said.

Locals said that Israeli warplanes targeted a training site belonging to the Al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas' military wing, between Rafah and Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip.

"In response to the attack, IAF aircraft targeted a Hamas position in the southern Gaza Strip," Israel's army said.

The site is located on the grounds of a former Israeli settlement which was evacuated in 2005.

No injuries were reported in the airstrike.
