Red Crescent medic detained at Erez crossing

Israeli forces on Sunday detained a Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) medic at the Erez crossing between the Gaza Strip and Israel, sources in the Palestinian liaison office told Ma'an.

Sources said Israeli forces detained Muhamamd Abu Jumaiza, who works for the Red Crescent, despite the fact that the man had a permit to enter Israel for three months.

A spokesperson for the PRCS could not be reached for comment.

Amid an upsurge in violence which started at the beginning of October, the PRCS announced a level three state of emergency due to numerous attacks against it medics and reports of Israeli forces blocking medics from attending to injured civilians.

The PRCS said such actions "constitute a crying violation of article 63 of the Fourth Geneva Convention which states that recognized National Red Cross (Red Crescent, Red Lion and Sun) Societies shall be allowed to pursue their activities." more
