GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- An explosive device blew up near a major square in Gaza City late Sunday, security officials said. The device exploded in the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood, with no injuries reported. Police arrived at the scene and are investigating the incident. The circumstances behind the explosion are unclear. A series of explosions have rocked Gaza over the past month. On April 6, an explosive device was set off near the al-Radwan mosque in Sheikh Radwan. Weeks later, an explosive device blew up near the Palestinian cabinet's headquarters in western Gaza City. On April 18, two explosions went off in Gaza Citycenter late Saturday causing no injuries. more

An explosive device was set off near the al-Radwan mosque in the Sheikh Radwan area in northern Gaza City late Monday. Witnesses told Ma'an that the sound of an explosion was heard in the area surrounding the mosque. No injuries were reported. Teams from the Ministry of Interior rushed to the area as soon as they were informed on the incident. Gaza has been rocked by a series of violent incidents in recent months, the majority involving attacks on the property of Fatah officials in the Hamas-dominated region. more

GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- A Palestinian was injured late Friday in an explosion that occurred near the French Cultural Center in western Gaza City. Gaza police spokesman Ayman al-Batneiji told Ma'an that the explosion injured one Palestinian. Al-Batneiji added that the Gaza police, explosives engineering and the criminal investigations department arrived to the area and opened an investigation into the incident. It was the second explosion that occurred at the same site in less than a month. The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the attack, saying that "the side responsible for such a criminal action does not belong to Palestinians as culture is a major part of the Palestinian identity." The statement added that those responsible for the explosions are "ignorant and do not appreciate the role of culture in the Palestinian national fight." more

More Gaza housing towers destroyed by Israeli airstrikes

Israeli airstrikes destroyed two residential housing towers in Gaza City on Tuesday as two Palestinians were killed in overnight airstrikes. Muhammad Muin Abu Ajwa and Hasan Omar al-Sawwaf were killed in airstrikes targeting central Gaza City. Another strike on the Nasser neighborhood hit a 16-storey mixed-use complex known as "Little Italy", causing its complete collapse, witnesses said. Witnesses said that F16s fired at least six rockets at the tower block, in which there were 60 apartments and a commercial complex including dozens of shops, completely destroying it. They said residents had fled the building after the Israeli army sent them pre-recorded warning messages. "The army told them to leave immediately and they all ran out into the street to find shelter," one told AFP. Thousands of Palestinians fled their homes in neighbourhoods of eastern Gaza City on Tuesday, carrying bags of clothes, pillows and mattresses after renewed Israeli air strikes, witnesses said. GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Gaza Strip following the collapse of a ceasefire earlier in the day. Palestinian medical sources said that paramedic Atef Zamili was killed in an airstrike on his vehicle and that seven passengers were wounded. Zamili's death brings to 16 the number of health workers who have been killed in Israeli strikes since the beginning of the assault 25 days ago. This is third 13th ambulance to be targeted in an Israeli attack, according to the ministry of health. Meanwhile, Israeli forces widened their assault across the Gaza Strip on Friday afternoon, launching further ground movements in Shujaiyya in eastern Gaza City, Beit Hanoun in the northern Gaza Strip, and Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip. The expansion of the invasion comes after Israel said one of its soldiers was captured during an attack on its military position east of Rafah inside the Gaza Strip. more

GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces killed at least 100 Palestinians on Sunday including 66 in a single neighborhood of Gaza City, bringing the 13-day death toll to 437. The assault on Gaza -- which has also left 18 Israels dead -- is the largest and deadliest attack on the besieged coastal enclave since 2008. More than 200 Palestinians have died since the ground invasion began on Thursday. On Sunday, 66 bodies were recovered from the Shujaiyya neighborhood in eastern Gaza City, in what medical authorities called a "massacre" and a level of violence not seen before in the ongoing conflict. GAZA CITY (Ma’an) – On the 13th day of the ongoing military offensive against the Gaza Strip, residents say invading Israeli forces committed "a new massacre" in the Shujaiyya neighborhood of Gaza City. At least 40 people have been killed and hundreds have been injured in the eastern neighborhood, medics said Sunday. The death toll is expected to rise as more bodies are uncovered. Medical sources said seven Palestinians were killed in other areas across the coastal enclave. Spokesman of the Palestinian ministry of health Ashraf al-Qidra said rescue teams evacuated at least 40 dead bodies from destroyed houses. 75% of Gaza City without electricity after lines damaged by strikes

GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Electricity was disconnected in major areas in Gaza City after heavy Israeli strikes on the al-Shujaiyya neighborhood, the electric company said Friday. Public relations officer at the electricity company Jamal al-Dredsawi said the two main electricity supply lines coming from Israel were damaged. Al-Dresdsawi told Ma’an that two out of three lines were damaged, which means 75 percent of the city is without electricity. He added that repairs would be delayed until Saturday because of the ongoing strikes on the area. more

GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Arsonists set fire to the main gates of a Christian school in Gaza City on Saturday, witnesses said. Unidentified assailants set fire to the entrance of the Holy Family School in the early hours of Saturday, with no injuries reported. Palestinian sources said four people were killed Tuesday afternoon from Israeli artillery fire towards Gaza City's Tufah neighborhood. Two youths, aged 11 and 16, were among the victims, according to the sources.
