Al-Qidra said 31 others were shot and injured by live fire, 9 by rubber-coated steel bullets, and 14 suffered from severe tear gas inhalation. A fighter of the al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Hamas movement, was killed on Thursday during training in Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip. The Brigades said in a statement that Ahmad Nimr al-Ghazzawi, 21, had been killed during the training but did not provide any more information regarding the details of his death. Training by the al-Qassam Brigades has continued despite Israeli threats and the recent classification of Hamas as a terrorist organization by neighboring Egypt. Palestinian medical sources said that paramedic Atef Zamili was killed in an airstrike on his vehicle and that seven passengers were wounded. Zamili's death brings to 16 the number of health workers who have been killed in Israeli strikes since the beginning of the assault 25 days ago. This is third 13th ambulance to be targeted in an Israeli attack, according to the ministry of health. A spokesman of the Hamas-run Gaza ministry of health told Ma’an that the circumstances behind the explosion were not clear. Ashraf al-Qidra added that ambulances evacuated two dead men and one critically injured person. The third victim was pronounced dead shortly after he arrived at the European Hospital in Kahn Younis. The third was near the southern town of Rafah, near the Egyptian border, Palestinian witnesses said. There were conflicting reports concerning the targets and no reported casualties. An Israeli army spokesperson confirmed the air force had carried out strikes in the Gaza Strip but told the AFP news agency she could not give further details. The Israeli authorities also closed on Sunday until further notice the Kerem Shalom goods crossing following a rocket attack, the defence ministry said. Israel had not carried out Gaza airstrikes since early April, when it launched the first strikes since an Egyptian-brokered truce in November ended a deadly eight-day conflict between Tel Aviv and fighters belonging to Hamas, which governs the territory. more
